Barrick Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is seeking a qualified and creative Communications Officer to join its team in Tanzania. This opportunity is ideal for professionals with experience in corporate communications, public relations, journalism, or digital media who are passionate about building strong organizational culture, protecting corporate reputation, and delivering impactful communication strategies.
Reporting to the Country Manager, the Communications Officer will be responsible for managing corporate branding, media messaging, and internal communications while ensuring alignment with Barrick’s global communication standards. The successful candidate will also support employee engagement initiatives, maintain brand consistency across all communication channels, and contribute to strengthening Barrick’s corporate identity throughout its Tanzania operations.
Responsibilities
- Promote and embed Barrick’s DNA across all communication activities.
- Execute Barrick’s Internal Communications Strategy effectively.
- Manage and utilize the In-Reach Program to deliver timely and consistent communication to employees.
- Drive awareness of Barrick’s DNA across all organizational levels.
- Support the implementation of regional and global communication initiatives.
- Collaborate with Country Leadership and Corporate Communications to develop and implement country communication strategies and engagement plans.
- Coordinate branding for industry events, exhibitions, forums, and media briefings in accordance with Barrick’s corporate identity standards.
- Prepare written communications, reports, newsletters, and social media updates for employees and external stakeholders.
- Manage digital communication platforms to support internal and external communication objectives.
- Create engaging content for internal communication channels, social media, and external platforms.
- Work closely with Human Resources and Corporate Social Responsibility teams to implement employee engagement campaigns and internal initiatives.
- Communicate Barrick’s achievements, key messages, and business updates across the organization.
- Maintain Barrick’s corporate identity and brand consistency across all communication materials.
- Capture and share stories that support organizational initiatives, including the Journey to Zero programme.
- Ensure compliance with Barrick’s communication policies and reporting requirements.
- Provide communications support to other Africa and Middle East operations when required.
- Assist in organizing exhibitions, conferences, and other public engagement events.
- Support the development and implementation of advertising campaigns that promote Barrick’s brand and community initiatives.
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
- Proven experience in corporate communications, public relations, media relations, or similar roles.
- Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
- Strong storytelling ability with the capability to simplify complex information into engaging content.
- Proficiency in digital communication tools, social media platforms, content management systems, email marketing software, and analytics tools.
- Knowledge of media relations, including press release writing, media pitching, and media monitoring.
- Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent collaboration and stakeholder management abilities.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
Experience and Skills
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in Corporate Communications or Journalism.
- Experience using graphic design software and digital media management tools.
- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
- High attention to detail and commitment to delivering quality communication materials.
