The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT) is inviting applications for a mail and logistics support position based in Arusha, Tanzania. The successful candidate will support the efficient processing, documentation, tracking, and delivery of official correspondence, courier services, and travel documents while ensuring compliance with United Nations procedures. The initial contract is for three months with the possibility of extension based on operational needs and funding availability.

The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT) is a United Nations institution responsible for carrying out essential functions previously performed by the international criminal tribunals. Through its administrative and operational services, the Mechanism supports the delivery of international justice while maintaining efficient logistical and administrative operations.

Position Details

  • Location: Arusha, Tanzania

Responsibilities

  • Process outgoing mail, incoming and outgoing pouches, and courier deliveries.
  • Prepare pouch dispatch documentation, destination tags, and shipment summaries.
  • Maintain daily pouch logs, including weights, destinations, and shipment records.
  • Track the movement and distribution of mail and pouch services.
  • Record all incoming and outgoing mail accurately.
  • Receive, sort, and prepare official correspondence, confidential mail, and valuable shipments.
  • Ensure timely delivery of urgent and sensitive correspondence.
  • Hand-deliver official documents to embassies, government ministries, United Nations agencies, NGOs, and other institutions.
  • Distribute conference documents promptly.
  • Maintain accurate records of certified, registered, express, and courier mail.
  • Assist with inspection of outgoing shipments to ensure compliance with pouch and mail regulations.
  • Deliver and collect travel documents from the Arusha Immigration Office.
  • Support IRMCT staff with registration at the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) and obtaining Tax Identification Numbers (TINs).
  • Perform additional operational duties as assigned.

Qualifications Required

  • Successful completion of a High School Diploma or equivalent qualification.
  • At least two years of experience in mail handling, pouch registry operations, or related administrative services.
  • Demonstrated experience as a professional driver.
  • Valid Category B driving licence.
  • Ability to operate different categories of vehicles will be an added advantage.

Language Requirements

  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
  • Working knowledge of Kiswahili is desirable.
  • Knowledge of French is an advantage since English and French are the working languages of the Mechanism.

Additional Information

  • This position is subject to local recruitment.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in Tanzania and currently reside in Arusha or within commuting distance of the duty station.
  • Contract extension will depend on the continuation of the Mechanism’s mandate and the availability of funding.
